Help with second label in garment

I know I am asking a ton of questions lately. I appreciate the help and want to say thanks.

Looks like this josepf label was added after the fact. Is it a store label or?

Can I remove it? It appears to be hand sewn in rather than machine sewn like the designers label.

It looks to me like someone sewed the Joseph label in it as well.

What does the original label say, please? I can't see worth a darn.

Awhile back, Couture Allure wrote a very informative blog about people sewing high-end labels into vintage clothing. I can't post the link, but you should be able to find it here if you go back thru the Vintage Q & A board (I think), or google her blog & go back a few months.
 
It is a Marion Maged. It is a gorgeous dress and parts of it are hand sewn. I just didnt know about the label. I will look at the blog. thanks!
 
I saw the one you are referring to. There is just a tiny bit about her out there. I had also found a newpaper article mentioning her name.

Sorry, I havent cropped them down and made them pretty yet. The dress is completely sheer, except the lace part which is put over flesh colored fabric. the back is made to stay open like it looks in the photo. the pleating on this dress is amazing.
 
Lovely dress! I think that David's is probably the store label and I'd leave it. I did a quick search for Marion Maged and found the same link to a piece in the Indiana State Collection.

Friends are allowed to add links to educational material - just not to items that they have for sale. Here's a link to the piece in the museum:

I did a very quick Google search and discovered that the Marion Maged trademark was filed in 1981 and cancelled in 1989. She showed a collection in 1978, and is mentioned in a newspaper article in 1980 - she was then 41. The dress in the museum is from 1978. There are several mentions of her in articles archived on Google.

Maybe one of our super-sleuths can discover more, but it appears her clothing was expensive (and lovely) and that she was not in business for very long.

In a 1980 article in 'Parade' discussing the American fashion business and American designers it says:

Buyers can choose from the young, whimsical

Marion Maged, who designs $350 to

almost exclusively in Europe.
 
I had a Marion Maged dress in my store. Her daughter just purchased it and sent me a note that she had been searching for years for her mother's dresses unsuccessfully. She said that both she and her mother, who is still alive, were very excited to have one of her pieces.

Hi there!
I know this thread is several years old, but I have been looking everywhere for information about this designer! I happened across a dress by her and had been thinking of selling it, so was trying to find more info about her and her designs, and there's just not much out there. Of the few dresses that I HAVE found, none look like what I have. (Uploading a photo here).
I'd sure love to have any info available about Marion Maged and/or this dress! Thank you!
