Not sure, but a few years ago, a dealer in our antique mall, had a lovely wax mannequin in his showcase....but, pricey! I was amazed at the condition of this mannequin. I believe it had human hair and the teeth looked like they might have been porcelain.

I was thinking from the photos and what you said about being "stored in a closet for a long time"(improperly, perhaps), that the silk of this lovely dress may have been compromised. When the silk is so fragile that it deteriorates with normal handling, it is, as Ruth suggested, a lovely display...

Without something in writing(authentic documentation) about the provenance, it surely would be difficult for anyone to say what paths this coat has traveled. One can only surmise! Ideally, it would be nice if you could go back to the dealer you purchased the coat from and ask for him to provide...

I am wondering if this piece came off of a 1950's charm bracelet???? They used to use a lot of charms with this type of ancient motif and I wouldn't term the pearl to be a "seed" pearl.....those would be a bit smaller and usually set differently(not in prongs). The metal could be brass, but...
