Nothing to add, except that the net is likely rayon. Almost all millinery netting was made of silk until WWI, then followed by rayon or silk or a blend of the two. The French were still making silk veiling until WWII and then no more (waaah!!). Nylon came in after the war but more as dress...
Looks more recent than the 1970s. It looks to be a copy of a vest used in a movie/film. Maybe a sci fi type of film. That type of garment, a movie replication, is a more contemporary thing. At least that's my take on it.
I want to shop where you shop! Nice coat, looks 1950s to me. Many refer to these as a wrap coat. Depending on how full it is in the back , you could call it a swing coat or swing topper coat although some feel a true "topper" is shorter than your coat. These were meant to be worn with...
I love the star spangled hood on this one, it really is different than most in that regard. It looks 1940s to me. Can you show or describe the inner shoulder? Specifically what type and shape of shoulder padding? I thought perhaps it could be late 1930s although the fabric in the lining...
That is a wonderful find, even with the hole. Looks circa 1910 to 1913, judging by the slender lines of it. These were often called lingerie dresses or garden party dresses. Hard to be exact on the year, as it is wrinkled and not fitting the dress form. Still, a very nice dress. These...
Looks mid to late 1980s to me, with that distressed effect. Cannot get a good look at the fur, could you post a close up for us, please? Probably rabbit fur, but not sure. I have no idea about the straps.
I also especially love the lady with the sewing machine. I am thinking this may be a bit earlier than Civil War era, perhaps 1850s. Really a wonderful image of the time.
Both of these (one on your other post) look like fur collars for a coat. Possibly detachable fur collars. As Caryn said, it would be helpful to see the reverse on these.
Just as a caution, if it were mine, I would want to determine the fibers before hand washing. If it is a combination of 2 fabrics they could shrink (or not shrink) at different rates and cause puckering, or the colors might bleed on the colored portions. Best to determine the fiber content of...
That is a wonderful dress. It could be helpful to see the full length of the dress. There was so much great American fashion coming out of California right after WWII and in the early to mid 1950s and this falls right into that time period for me.
A sheath dress, and I adore those buttons...
These look very much like a pair of glove liners, which would have come with a pair of Gucci leather gloves. I am not sure, but it is a possibility. And I agree they are more contemporary. Still, very nice to have.
Gussets have been used for centuries in all manner of clothing and appear in all decades up to the present time. They are seen less after the 1950s in mass produced garments, as clothing became more cheaply and simply made made over time.
Your lovely robe appears to be from the 1940s. The...
In my humble opinion, the best books out there as far as dating hats are the two editions of Susan Langley's "Hats and Bonnets 1770 - 1970". The first edition is 1998, and the expanded revised later edition came out in 2009. If you can, buy both editions. Nothing else really compares.
You...
It is not easy to date accurately from just your photos, but here is a good estimate.
#1 is late 1950s to early 1960s
#2 is mid 1950s, possibly early 1960s
#3 is early 1950s, possible very late 1940s.
Hello,
That is very pretty. It looks to be new or fairly recently made, possibly was embellished further by the last owner, or could have been originally made with all the trims. Possibly a China import, or perhaps a craft/kit piece.
I am in LA. You can also try Golyester in the Wilshire district. She is very gracious and honest. She is also a private collector of grand clothing and accessories.
If you have any hats, please contact me as I am always purchasing or if I do not wish to purchase, I can happily assist you...
This will be a bit hard to date without handling it and seeing it in close up. Can you try to get a good close up photo of the beads, sequins, and net? I am getting a more contemporary vibe from this. Are the beads glass or are they plastic?
It is lovely.
