Eye Candy: Novelty Hankies and Scarves!

I've got some serious scarf envy going on right now, so right back at you: Swiss snow sports in wool. Helsinki 1952 Olympics Vera, early 60s Southern California, 1950s 1970s Vera: The official scarf of the Vintage Traveler. At first glance this looks early 60s, but it is...

The history of Women Wearing Pants

Amanda, thanks so much for posting the link. This was actually a paper that I presented at my regional Costume Society of America symposium this week, but I could not resist sharing it on my blog. When One puts that kind of work into something, one has the urge to overshare!

Dating vintage Lanz Label on suit

I've never seen a Lanz label without the words "Lanz Salzburg" or Lanz Original". I know this looks late 40s, but couldn't it be a bit earlier, say 1935ish, especially with that snap and hook closure?

Judy Travels Abroad: a handwritten 1958 European tour diary

How fantastic! I got an email from the developer of the site and I immediately recognized the diary as yours. It's really fun.

    Help with a language

I was afraid of that, as they are in a closed group. Anyone really interested in novelty prints ought to ask to join Novelty And Border Print B/S/T.

    Help with a language

Can anyone read this well enough to tell what language is being used? It is stamped on the edge of a piece of 1950s fabric, and it came from the UK.

    Meet the family

These are so wonderful, and I'm glad they now reside safely with you. Those girls in their bloomers! Please talk with Cousin Nancy as soon as you can. I inherited a box of photos several years ago and they sat untouched until one day I decided to take them to my grandmother for help with...

    Convention in San Antonio?

There is usually a marketplace, but it is mainly books. Several years ago I bought some very nice 1918-1920 sewing pattern magazines. There is also a silent auction which is also mainly books, but there are always a few vintage clothing pieces. The seminars are open to non-members, but there...

Valuing New with all orginal tags Pendleton 49er Jacket

Pendleton was an early adopter of the Woolmark, and they were using it by the fall of 1964. Colors and collar size might give some more clues. Can you post photos?

    Abercrombie & Fitch deerskin breeches

I found your underdrawers in both the 1946 and 47 Von Lengerke & Antoine catalog. Von Lengerke & Antoine was in Chicago, and was owned by and carried the same merchandise as Abercrombie & Fitch. I think this is pretty much when yours were made, though chamois underdrawers are also listed in my...

    Help with dating boys knickers?

Okay, I did a search for United Carr Dot Snappers and they were first used in 1938. My amended guess is that these date from the late 30s, through pre-war 40s.
