Hiya!
I guess if the middle of this brooch was real turquoise it would be a gold brooch which it isn't it's a costume piece (do you find real turquoise in costume pieces?)
Would this therefore be faux turquoise, maybe made of enamel?
I know this question sounds silly but just want to...
....nah, that's just me creating confusion!!
Anyone have any idea re date? I've had this skirt for ages & have been a bit stumped re date. No fabric content and definitely handworked.
:help: If more photos are needed just shout!
Sarah
I posted a pic of the label? RECKONS is the name of the label.....
I wondered if it was hand embroidered, so thanks for confirmation..was thinking this might be a holiday souvenir skirt maybe....

I've had this skirt a while now and unsure as to the date.
The fabric includes little round mirrors inside the white flowers and I have shown the reverse of the fabric. Label 'RECKONS' though cannot find anything on name.
The construction is quite shoddy, like a bad homemade job...
....patchwork dungarees.....looked like a quilt gone wrong & I'm 5ft 4 so was so the wrong height ...late 80s I think that was....my friend wore them one night and she was the right height but they still didnt do her any favours! Connie, you look so cute, but yes long johns..they look a tad...
Thanks everyone for feedback. I think I will take it along with me to my next vintage fair. Easier that way and the fabric is nice and tactile so better at a fair.
I did pin it back and yes the dress was more obvious in shape to me...does have a late 40s early 50s feel, though more late 40s...
Right here are some piccies, there are double bust darts and darts on the sleeve and on the back etc, some french seams and some not. The press studs have two flower type markings and B and then N if that means anything to anyone!
Clearer pics of the dress:
Dress inside out so you can...
Hi everyone!
I bid on a clothes lot on Ebay and so far I've encountered broken zips mainly etc which wasn't mentioned. I haven't opened all the boxes but not a happy bunny.
This quite large sized dress is a bit creased after it's journey, but has press studs down the side. I'm a bit thrown...
Hi Nicole,
It is metal I believe, a kind of pewter tone if there's such a thing, or silver tone gone dingy...on closer inspection tis a parrot. Sorry for poor pics, the light was murky.
Sarah
it's ok lol! I have a very hard time thinking of the 1980s as vintage, a VERY hard time...but as Etsy term anything 20 years or older as vintage, then that's my time line.......
Oh and thank you for confirming date ;)
Sarah :sunshine:
:hiya:
Just want to make sure that this wedding dress dates early to mid 80s....I'm hoping it isn't any newer otherwise I can't call it vintage!!
Thank you!
Sarah
Thanks DeCoDiVa, I think that website will be very useful to alot of friends and members on VFG and Anne's backed them, so that will go down on my list of very useful links! Not sure it will be worth it on this brooch though, but got other jewellery that will be worth the trouble.
Thanks...
Thanks Linn and Jonathan for all that useful information. It was the fold over clasp design and the way it was a little art deco in style that made me wonder if older. I will post back of earrings when I'm back home. I have plenty of necklaces that I now know are def 50s or 60s but this one was...
Hiya!
Got a load of costume jewellery.
I've ordered a book from the library (as recommended on VFG resource) to help me learn more about the subject, but I'm really keen to list a few items before the book comes through.
Soooo, can anyone recommend a good website that will help with...
Yes, the resource book guide on VFG is fabulous. I'm sitting here with half a dozen I ordered from the library that were recommended and quite rightly so.

....hmmm, forgot that other question....what wasn't hot....50s New Look was still admired and clucked over, but no buyers, but 50s/60s Audrey Hepburn little black dress fine and similar tops. But yes, New Look not so in favour, more pre New Look or 1980s were hot.
...oops, I didn't realise I had a reply...
My vintage fair was in Essex in England. What seemed to be hot was metallics! People were also still looking for that little black dress and the young ladies were into plaid (school girl look) as well as metallics.....
I had a fab day. Shame my...
Thanks Hollis, I was initially thinking late 40s post war, as I know due to war effort the men went from 3 piece to 2 piece suits (I'm learning!) and certainly woudn't be buying cummerbunds but the rationing did go on after the war didn't it, it didn't just stop so I have to remember that. So...
