Help identifying and dating fur coat

Hi all, I just acquired a Guy Laroche fur coat. I think it's from the 60s or 70s and that it's real blonde mink fur but I was hoping that the experts can weigh in. Also is the lining silk? As a separate question, while the fur appears to be in amazing condition, the lining has a bunch of...

    Help dating dress

Thank you all!!! I think you are right that the mantilla has been added later although it seems to to be perfect fit colorwise. The belt positioning is definitely my fault as I frankly had no idea which side was supposed to point up but I guess I am not sure about the back to front comment. Are...

    Help dating dress

Hi all, I think this dress is from the 80s, possibly 80s does 40s but wanted to see if the experts agree. What throws me off is the fact that there are absolutely no shoulder pads and that veil/ lace cape which I wouldn't have associated with the 80s. What do you guys think? And how would you...

Thank you Furwise! Very helpful. Nicole, here are some additional pictures of the pelt and lining which is also in the picture with the label. Thank you!

    Fairbrooke Coat

Hi all, I have a few questions about this coat. 1. Is this real fur on the collar and if so, what kind? 2. The coat has no buttons or zipper. Just closes with a belt. Does that type of coat have a different name? 3. I am thinking early 70s. Does this sound right? Thanks Victoria

Thank you, Jonathan. I think it's right on the cusp too. Any feedback on the designer? Anyone familiar with Victor Joris' work? Thanks Victoria

    Cuddlecoat by Victor Joris?

Hi all, I got this fantastic coat (which I absolutely love by the way) with the label Cuddlecoat. After a fair amount of research I now know that the company has been in existence since 1916 but that Victor Joris was the designer from 1958 and into the 70s and won two Coty Fashion Critics...

Is this a dress or lingerie?

Thank you! So could this dress be what was supposed to go underneath? Both have belt loops which threw me off.

Is this a dress or lingerie?

Hi all, Happy Holidays! Not sure if this is a dress or lingerie. In the same group of clothes was a dress that looked very similar in color and length so this could go over as an overlay but that may be just a coincidence. Any thoughts? Thank you Victoria

    Help dating dress

The dress is indeed too small for this mannequin. I barely put it on. It is a bit more A-line but not too much. I don't think it's from the 90s. The inside stitching looks much too old for that.

    Help dating dress

Thank you, Karin and Melanie. The stitches go through the whole fabric. There is no lining. They do not appear to be added later since the thread is the same.

    Help dating dress

Hi all, I think this dress is from the late 60s or early 70s but not quite sure. The fabric looks like linen but is actually not. It's soft and supple and doesn't wrinkle. No labels or care tags. Were the button and chain ornaments typical of a particular period? Anything else I should look at...

Thank you Melanie. Beautiful dress. I hope you find the proper undergarment for it. The links were also very interesting. I definitely learned a few new things while researching this dress.

    Help with style name

Thank you Nicole and Linn. I looked up Merry Widow bras and came upon this ad from 1954 which seems to be a perfect example of how it would have been worn. How lovely!

    Help with style name

Thank you so much for looking Nicole. Yes, I had seen that listing on 1st Dibs (and its price!) too and I was referring to it when I said I didn't like the "bubble drape" description :). I don't see any indication that there was any stitching in the back but it's definitely possible since the...

    Help with style name

Thank you, Nicole. Here are a few pictures of the fabric. It feels soft and it definitely has a sheen. I would describe it as lustrous. The second picture shows it from the inside. It's lined with a sheer and also somewhat shiny fabric if that helps. Thank you Victoria

    Help with style name

Thank you, Nicole. The fabric is hard to photograph but it is a bit stiff and I was leaning towards taffeta. The dress isn't clipped to the mannequin at all so this is its true shape. Any suggestions on the name of this shape?

one more dating question, george gross dress

Not an expert either but I would have said late 70s or maybe even 80s. The trademark for George Gross states that the name was first used in 1974 and first used commercially in 1986.

    Help with style name

Hi all, A couple of questions on this Nathan Strong dress. 1. I am leaning towards 50s but would love your opinion. 2. What is the name of this style dress or how would you describe the draping fabric in the back? I saw one described like bubble drape but that doesn't do it justice. 3. Would...

    Help dating shirt

Thank you all so much. Very helpful. I always learn so much from you. I didn't even realize it was a men's shirt since it was so ornate. I frankly can't imagine a guy wearing it nowadays.

    Help dating shirt

Nicole, I did think it was strange that it was unhemmed. The front and back are the same length, it's just the way I took the picture to show both edges. It seems strange that someone would cut a shirt like this and leave it but it looks and feels completely unworn so maybe they bought it and...

    Help dating shirt

Thank you, Nicole and Melanie. There are no care labels at all. The only label is the Raleigh one. However, one thing I forgot to mention and ask about was the fact that the shirt appears "unfinished" on the bottom. I think I have seen this somewhere with shirts that get custom finished but not...

    Help dating shirt

Hi all, Is anyone familiar with the label Raleigh Haberdasher? I know the company went out of business in 1992 and was sold a number of times prior to that but can't quite find anything on labels or style and I am trying to date this shirt. Also, would you consider this to be a tuxedo style...

    Help dating dress and purpose

Hi all, I picked up this dress along with a few others ranging from the 50s to the 70s. This one has me stumped though. Not sure what period this was from and what purpose it would have had. Is this a dress for a particular kind of dance maybe? Judging by the stitching, it appears hand made...
