Hi Artshow
welcome to the forum.

It's a very striking hat indeed, sorry I cannot help with the styles name, as to the value, I look at it this way
It depends upon how much you like it and if you are going to wear it makes it more valuable to me.

If you like it/ use it and can spare the money then buy it.

If youare thinking about buying it then selling on at a later date which some collector do after they worn it for a while and try to get at least their money back that's a very different game when so many different factor come in to play which some cannot be predicted.

sorry if that not to much help,.

It's not from the 1940s - I think its quite new, sometime in the last decade, maybe 90s. There isn't a style name for it because it is not a style that was in fashion for any length of time. I think its a 'one off' design by a milliner made for a bridal party or horse race. I have twice been in New York at Easter time and its worth going up to Harlem or over to Brooklyn and watch the Baptist church ladies head for services all decked out in their new hat and outfit - this is exactly the sort of hat they wear.

thank you Jonathan and Pauline! =)

I appreciate both of your help... If I buy something it is usually because I would display it. I have "accessory envy"... :violins:
I tend to think I have one of those types of faces/heads that doesnt look well wearing a hat or too many accessories... However, I admire people who can pull it off so I like to occassionally buy things and display them, on a dressing table or in a shadowbox, some place that my friends or visitors might get a glimpse of. At least then they know the real me and what I enjoy.
