I just picked up this book last week. Mine was a later edition - revised in 1949, I think. What a coincidence!

My favorite line in the book is, "...I find that too often youth is discouraged by Victorian methods. Our daughters live in a machine age and want streamlined speed. To them, samplers and long-drawn-out routines vanished with the horse and buggy."

That line really stuck with me - I guess because I never before considered that moms and grandmas in the '40s HAD learned to sew by the Victorian techniques.
