About vintage lace

I just have a few questions I was hoping someone could answer. Does anyone know at what point manufacturered lace became customary to use in clothing, as opposed to handmade lace? And as far as lace patterns - I know today I can recognize many common patterns in lace, in things such as curtains. Is it possible to date an item by the pattern in lace? Is it possible a lace pattern used in the 1920s could be used later on, like the 70s, 80s and so on?

My grandmother was a ladies neckwear designer in the 10s and 20s, when all those dickeys and jabots and collars were in fashion. She used endless yards of lace and all of it was machine-made, far as I can tell. I have since used lots of the lace she left me in all sorts of projects. In the 70s and early 80s, when the "Edwardian Revival" (think Gunne Sax) was on, you can bet that lots of folks used their old lace to create new clothes.

I don't know if factories were cranking out the same lace they made in the 00s, 10s, 20s, etc., I think it's more a case of there being plenty left over to work with.
