Advice for Vintage Clothing Auctions

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone can offer some advice regarding vintage clothing auctions. I am planning to attend my first one and wondered what those who have done it before suggest.

Look items over very carefully for flaws, tears, discoloration, etc.at the preview and set a price in mind and write it into your catalog or a piece of paper.

Mary Jane is right: it's imperative to inspect the stock properly beforehand and set your limit.

Oh, I did read your blog, Nicole! Now I remember the pics of all the 40s fabrics. So darling.

My worry is I'll want something so badly that I wont be able to stick to my limit!

That's the biggest risk at an auction: wanting something too much - you might pay too much, but of course, someone else needs to want it badly too or it won't go too high.

You can preview the items in person and then bid online if needs be. I might do that so that I put in my maximum and walk away. If I win I win if I don't :(

Sounds like a good plan! Just be careful when using a proxy bid service, things can get very tricky at times with those. I have lost out on items at times as they
sometimes don't react in enough time.

I also wonder about bidding on certain items that are one a kind, clothing from say a theatrical production or that belonged to a celeb. How do you know how much a thing is worth?
