Almost Famous
Released in 2000, Almost Famous is a lovingly-honed coming of age story based on writer-director Cameron Crowe's real-life adventures as a budding journalist. Set in the early 1970s, it chronicles his adventures touring with a country-rock band while on assignment for Rolling Stone. Unbeknownst to his editors, he was just a high school student at the time.
Costume designer Betsey Heimann's pitch-perfect wardrobe captured both the laid-back sexiness of the era as well as its innocence. Nowhere is that more beautifully realized than in the iconic outfits she created for Kate Hudson's Penny Lane and her posse of *band aids*.
The film is more popular now than ever as it hits its twenty-year mark, with a Broadway musical about to begin previews and fashion designers revisiting its boho chic style for their current collections.
Join us this week as VFG members play their greatest hits from the '70s - no backstage pass required. Just say, "I'm with the band".
