I grew up on a farm with very basic amenities, and I have clear memories of my mom in the late 1950s doing laundry every Monday using a hand wringer, which was a somewhat modernized version of a mangle. Found this circa 1950 motorized version from New Zealand on Shorpy. It looks very similar to what my mother used.

I remember those washers also.

Maybe Georgina accidentally hit the 2 instead of the 5 because this is definitely not 20s.
I've never seen that term used on a label either. My grandmother used a similar washing maching in the 50s as well.

My mother was still using a mangle in the early 1960s, I remember it in our basement. She only had a washing machine back then, no dryer. So using a mangle pressed out a lot of water and the clothes hung dry quicker, especially in the winter when clothing couldn't be hung outside.
