Hello! Haven't posted much lately, so I'll just dive right in.

Cannot for the life of me settle on a date for this one. I'm thinking late 50's early 60's It's got a bit of an A line to it. Has one of those covered wire hook things to close it. Longer in front to give it "stole" look.

    What do you think?

It is also monogrammed. Is this rabbit dyed to look like sable? There are no little silver hairs, but it sure looks like sable.
    Thanks!

Well, I've never seen anything like quite this before! It looks almost like a vest, or am I not seeing it correctly? But I remember back in the 60s people were wearing a LOT of fur stoles, capes, and numerous other things, so offhand I'd think 60s, but have nothing really to base that opinion on! Though I know next to nothing about furs, this does not look like rabbit to me.... FWIW!

    Hiya Sandra! :hiya:

    I have NO CLUE. :BAGUSE:

But i am sure someone will be along soon.

I think the photos are great how they catch all the colors.

BTW, i *THINK* someone was perhaps doing something on marshall field's and that tangled web of dept store buyouts...so if you would be kindly, maybe pop that label on the label thread :)

    Hello anne and Chris!

    anne,
yes this is a vest. Odd isn't it? Thank you for the compliment.

    Cool :)

I wish by now I would have looked at the fur resource long enough to help you all out now and again. However, since I don't deal in furs I guess the hands on knowledge is what makes it really stick. I can id chinchilla and skunk lol and lynx right off the bat but any of these very similar things - sable, mink, etc....just sometimes escape me!

i just always picture hippie type of styles of fur being vests...this is too polished for that. Do you think it has been refashioned or was it originally a vest?

    Chris <====ignorant!

Not an ingnorant assumption at all Chris! Someone else suggested that too! If it was re-fashioned it was done by a professional. Polished BOHO, I like it!!

does the label date the fur? as l have sen these, look like a wrap from the front, but cosy up underneath!! very late 40s!! but th label loks 60s!!

looks like sable to me...the colours on a monitor can distort, so difficult to tell....could be ranch mink of course, not a lot betwixt them..

Hi, just going through my vast fur library (lucky enough to have been tutored by an American designer that studied furs in Moscow)...this is most likely stenciled marmot...winter marmot as they change colors like ermine...mink like, thick and lustrous but I see no longer guard hairs...and the marmot was a prime candidate for stenciling and striping...(the dark stripes are not natural). Hope this helps. Sharon

    Hello Sara.
Not mink at all. I thought it looked like sable too until I saw the silver hairs on the sable on the fur resource thread here at VFG.

Sharon-you are a wealth of information! Thanks.

So do I hear late 50's early 60's?
