Ok seems I can't up load the new pictures from phone directly here I will from home. The label printed in the roof of the hat says"La Vienne imported body made in Austria
The sewn in label on inside says"Doris" letters are red with small white pinstriping.
"Elegante" using black lettering

Hi,

Mary is right on the 1960's dating. and I would date this to the early to mid part of the decade, say 1963 to 1967. The hat is not made in Austria, that is the source of the felt body which was imported to the USA to be made into the hat, and La Vienne is the type of finish on the felt itself, which is made of a blended fur such as rabbit or nutria, etc. The color is beautiful. I have owned a few hats with the "Doris" label, and seen quite a few more, but she is a rather obscure milliner, but a very good one. "Elegante" would designate the line she made for that season, or an upscale better hat with a higher price tag. The hat is a wonderful quality and the style is sort of Alpine hiker, which was very popular at that time for mature women.

It's unlikely to have any connection with Doris Day - Doris is the designer label, a popular woman's name for a generation.

Barbara, thank you for the information about the hat; fascinating as always.

Thanks again you are all fabulous!
I'm new to this and opening a resale shop soon
Excited to learn about the rest our hats!
