Any Way to Date Pendleton?

I found two suits from Pendleton. Tartans. I had Marc Jacobs for Loius Vitton in mind when I grabbed them! One has an a-line skirt and three button jacket. The other a two-button jacket and pleated full skirt. I'm lost as far as dates. And do they sell?

Here's another tartan... Laura Ashley. "80s? Nicely made in Great Britain...

Hi Kevin -

The Pendleton suits look 80's (maybe late 70's?) to me; nice that the tartan is named in the 2nd one. It's hard to tell from the current or completed auctions how these might do - it's still a little early for stuff like this. My guess is that there might be buyers for them... I'd wait for others' opinions on that.

As far as dating Pendleton or Pendleton in general - you can't go wrong with a 49'ers jacket, IMHO

49'ers jacket

Here's a whole page of them

I think these prices are low - a combination of the soft market/summer doldrums and that it's simply a little early yet for these. But I love these jackets, and a lot of other people do too. :)

Kevin, can't help you with the Pendleton's. They seem to be relatively
easy to find in the US, but I've never seen one up here in Ontario.

I would wait a couple of weeks though before listing them. Fall sales on
Ebay should start full swing in a couple of weeks.

Thanks Guys!

Yikes, tons of 'em out there! I didn't know they were so easy to find. I haven't seen too many here in the city. Very well made though and I don't see any other suits per se.

I'm getting all my future listings ready now because eBay doesn't have an auto-lister for Mac and I have to hand code everything and list it one-by-one. :(

Pendleton has a following at least in my experience because the company is long known for a quality product that lasts. some people think of them whenever they think of wool.

I agree with Carolyn - wait a few weeks. People may be more open to the jackets that can be worn as seperates to mix into their wardrobe, but full wool ensembles, i would wait til later in august at least.

I have a pendleton jacket with the same label and its early 90s maybe late 80s, but doesn't mean they didn't use the label earlier. so i am no help

Resurrecting an older thread here...

Just writing to say I picked up a vintage Pendleton pantsuit the other day in a very thick woven orangy-red/white/grey/black plaid pattern. It sounds horrendous in color, I know, but it's actually quite nice. Other than a little bit of wear on the brass anchor buttons, it's in great shape. I think the jacket might do well with a black top or blouse paired with jeans with this fall season's fashions, but as someone said earlier in this thread the whole ensemble is a tad overwhealming!

Debating whether or not to sell it - I'll try and get pics later.

I sold a pant suit in February that was the same way - very bold apart but together - man oh man! If you decide to sell, I would show them in the pictures all seperately....but the jacket with a black or neutral shirt and pants or skirt, and the pants with a black turtleneck or shell (or if one of the others suits it better). When i look at outfits, I usually in my mind imagine the different pieces seperately too, but not all people can visualize that way, especially when the pieces make such a "visual impression".

But if it fits you and you love it - keep it - at least for awhile.

8. Kevin, here is a scan from Marie Claire, Sept. 04.

Can be worn all together. Notice the slip showing which is popular now. Get out all those vintage ruffled hem slips!

Promote skirts being worn separately with a sweater or blouse and jackets with jeans, etc.

I bought a Pendleton fall jacket (red & black plaid) on ebay and I LOVE it! I think it is 70's although it could be modern. There are several Pendleton labels on the label resource - I looked there before I bought mine. I have to say, it is so well made, the quality is amazing - I would definitely buy another one.

Thanks for the scan Linda! I'm going to use it in my listings! (if allowed) I have to wonder what brave soul would work that total tartan look! I hate to break up suits.

I wish I had a crinoline to put under them... anyone have an extra one to sell? I also need it for full dresses. (And to think I had a bunch at one time, but gave them away over the years...)

12. Anyone is welcome to the scan. I just think you need to give credit.
(To Marie Claire, not to me)
:P

Kevin, I think you can also use a straight half or full slip with a lot of flounce on the hem. Do you remember my pink one I posted about a month ago?
You can usually pick these fairly easy at thrift stores. Look on ebay under crinolines for the fuller ones. They have been going fairly cheaply but might increase in value as Halloween season comes on. Don't think I have an extra one but will check.

13. Oh wow. I have a viyella shirt I was just asking about on the other board! Thinking it was similar to vicuna. I bet it is really soft!

Thanks Leisa! I'm going to try for the trio I think. I'll have three colors then!

Linda, that viyella shirt is just buttery! The workmanship is outstanding as well!
