Anyone watching American Idol (USA)?

Yes, I have been hooked in once again this new season...

I think it goes back to days when i was auditioning people myself that I get some sort of armchair reliving of it all and analyzing. (or remembering a strange audtion or two of my own)

Anyway, I noticed that tons of the girls across the board are wearing tops that look like slips or camisoles as their blouses. I know we were talking about that quite awhile ago...maybe before the holidays even about that....

Chris

Me and my husband both do too!

I think he has to be about the best one. I like the fact that it is not all 100% pop-y or adult contemporary market, or boy band type guys this year. there are those for sure, but I was glad to see them put through two guys that are more rocker types. Nobody even made it anywhere near close to the finals last year who fit into that category. I remember last year there was one kid who had sort of a Bob Seger vibe to him but he didn't even make it to the top 24 or whatever it is.

I do appreciate amazing soaring vocals, but i was waiting for them to put a rocker through.

I've never gotten into American Idol until this season. I do the nordic track while watching it.

I think Bo (Beau?) is a sweetie and a great ole fashion rocker!

I also like Nadia(?)...the black girl with the wild hair. I think she is
terrific

And the one gal, Michela(?) reminds me so much of a young
Barbara Streisand. She's only 16 too, and boy does she have
chutzpah!

Mikaela/Michaela (sp??) however you spell it (don't know)...she was reminding me actually of Fran Drescher for some reason. Maybe not so much this week but definitely in the past.

She reminds me of an over-confident, self-important PITA!!!

I was sorry to see the teacher guy with the dreadlocks leave last week, he sang Moon River - I liked him!

Not sure if we are up to date with the show as you see it - I like Beau and also Mario - and the Tina Turner look-alike.

The teacher, Anwar, did not leave. He is still around.

There are two guys with dreadlocks. The other guy with dreadlocks, David, left.

Ooooops! - another 'senior moment' passes ................yes, Anwar is the guy I like! ;)

I'm loving Mario and Bo. I also liked Joe, who was voted off this week. IMHO, Nadia is the best female, but none of the girls are strong enough to win it this year. It's a good thing they're picking 6 guys and 6 girls...otherwise, I think the competition would be among 10 guys and 2 girls.

Patsy

Oh, I like Anwar too. He also has the neatest eyes! Very warm.

I agree that I think a guy will win this year. They seem more consistent
than the girls.

Mario is also a cutie.

Oh for gosh sakes I am so anal about American Idol, I can't miss an episode, its like Survivor for some of you....

Sorry to say Joe Murena got booted off this week...Gotta love this guy's voice and looks, his eyes and smile...He had all the makings of the next idol but he is more of Julio Iglesias style which none of the panel cared for.....

I am quite stuck on Bob Marley being Anwar I think his name is...A teacher, down to earth and he has a great voice....

Second to this is oh shoot Andrew??? This is the fella who at one time did not have a voice in his childhood....Clay Aiken wanna be.... Oh Ok I am supportive of the underdogs...

The female side.....Mikayla is cute as a button and reminds me of Fran from The Nanny....I don't think she'll win though and I am afraid she is one level under what she needs to be to get to the top....Give her a year or two...

Nadia has shone each and every time like a gem stone....

My favourite is Jessica Sienna!!!!

The gal from Oklahoma might be the dark horse...Can't think of her name she is blonde as well and homegrown. She kind of blew it with the Janis Joplin tune but I wonder if she can sing anything else but country western, that is the mystery....Versatility might be her downfall....

Those are my picks....and I AGREE the American Idol this year will be MALE....

Nanc

Oh yeah...that is an amazing story ..to get a traecheotomy and not think to be able to talk again and then be in a competition for singing....

(my husband's comment about the thing...why don't they dress up more if they are on national tv?? LOL)

You're hubby is hilarious Chris....Actually Simon said this directly to Andrew when he wore those holey jeans!!!! Like couldn't you afford a new pair, this is a COMPETITION???

Sorry it might be the style but I have to agree.....like those jeans were majorly ripped!!! For those of you who don't recall names, Andrew is the young fella who didn't have a voice as a child...

Nanc

He meant the baggy clothes and the girls in slip tops.

I remember my days when i had ripped jeans...but they weren't purchased that way...they earned those holes LOL

After last night, I think Bo Bice has the possibility of winning it all. But people may feel sorry for Andrew or like Nikko. But I think B. is really the best one at this point after last night

Chris

If I missed one night of American Idol I would have a major fit. I have no life.

I vote for Anthony Fedorov and and Carrie Underwood.
:clapping:

I do love Beau...and I love Edwin McCain. He sang one of his songs last night. But, omg! Anwar gives me goosebumbs when he sing. He has an incredible voice! And he makes it look so effortless. And he seems so nice and humble. I vote for Anwar.
Makayla is my favorite girl. She does remind me of Barbara & Bette Midler & Fran for that matter. An h litn. imon tol h that 1/2 of America will love her and the other 1/2 will think she is obnoxious because she talks too much. Well the next week she didn't talk at all!
But she will be famous one day regardless I think.

I really like Anwar too, and it would be really cool if he won. Not only is he a great singer, but he is a music teacher and could do a lot of good. I know that he would go on to be a music superstar, but it would teach a lot of people how important music in schools are and you cannot cut the programs. And there are studies that kids who are taught music...rhythm and mostly to read sheet music and be able to translate are a lot better at math when they are introudced to it than children who don't. Or if a young child is struggling with math, and fractions, that introducing them to music in that more technical way, really improves their grasp of math. Not all of them will go on to be Rhodes scholars in math, but teaching the technical side of music at a young age has more effects than just inspiring creativity.

Also, I am sure he will never forget his desire to teach and would really be able to reach a lot more young people.

I missed the girls last night. I really wanted to see them. I don't know what she did last night, but I noticed that last time Micaela/Micayla however you spell it shut her mouth under the direction that she is viewed as majorly annoying. (which is how she struck me on first impression).

Ok weird thing happened yesterday. As I was having lunch with dh and dd we were listening to an oldies radio station. Try a Little Tenderness by Otis Reading came on and I said I loved that song, hadn't heard it for a long time and that it would be a great song for someone on AI to sing.
And wouldn't you know, last night the skinny girl with the big hair sang it! My dd called me and we couldn't believe it.
Wasn't exactly the rendition that I liked the best but I think it was good for her.
Poor Mykayla-bad song-off key-I felt embarrassed for her. Simon says she is acting too old so I bet if she makes it(fingers are crossed) that she acts her age next week. She does listen.

Yes Chris, music in schools is a fight I have taken on a couple of times.
It is soooo important to expose children to culture and arts early and let them explore their talents.
