Have you ever owned a dress that not only featured a fabric belt that is the thing right now plus..... slightly puffed shoulders that is the latest (old is new) trend for summer going into fall

- it is possible

.......BUT did you have all this PLUS it Anubis, Egyptian god of the underworld on it. I don't think so!!

No one could ever mistake you for a wilting wallflower in this number...

I like the shine! Very artsy. It reminds me of the unusual textiles the Smithsonian catalogue offers.

its actually embroidered instead of a print. and its satiny!

the whole family is there...the Pharoah Akhnaton and children Tutankhamen and Ankhasamun (sp?). If they had Nefertiti on it it would be a royal flush.

I don;t have hexes, but strange things tend to be magnetized to me so you never know i may find one the next time i am out : )

I'm such a sucker for this shiny heavy satin type fabrics - and when combined with Egyptian charm. Well! Great find!

Here are examples of the construction. i at first was leaning towards well done homemade because of the lack of lining - but you would not need it with the satin anyhow...

that's interesting, Ann...i didn't think of Shaheen because it was embroidered and not printed and i always think of hibsicus vs hieroglyphics

When i first posted this dress in may when i was going to list it, Jonathan dated it to 77-78. unfortunately, it left me with the toss up of listing it in the 65-77 cat or the 78-89 cat. of course, you would expect to see the length with the 70s, but the very slight puffed sleeves would say late 70s leading into 80s.

I am thinking since i got hits and no bites, i may hold onto it for just a bit and list it again...maybe it will have appeal closer to the fall or closer to halloween. people might search for egyptian costumes, and although this would not be one, would find this while they were searching. or at least people would be in the mood for satin maybe a few more weeks down the road...
 
Well I know that Shaheen did produce shiny satin embroidered, probably late to early 60's cos I have a dress of theirs. The backgroumd silk/satin looks very similar - colour, texture. I know that Shaheen did use hieroglyphics on their earlier printed cottons. It would be fascinating to know if it is.

I'll try and find the dress in question so you can see. It had a brown label, I know that.
 
This one had no label...but that doesn't mean there wasn't one - someone could have removed it. i just turned the dress inside out thinking maybe it is in a weird place and i missed it...but no. i will look for further evidence of a remnant somewhere in the stitching of one.

I would be very interested to see your dress!
