Black dress need help with dating and design??

Hi, I have this lovely black dress that has some lovely designs on it. I am stuck on a date for it. I am thinking 50's 60's or later? It has small shoulder pads. Back nylon zipper, but it seems as if it was replaced. The material is strange a light weight cotton crepe, wool? What do you call the designs? It has a straight fit, but it was too big for the manni so I tacked it. Surged seams. No tags anywhere. Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't think later than 50s, between the length and use of shoulder pads (early 50s, even...), but hopefully someone will come along soon who can be more definitive than that!

I agree with Carrie, no later than 50s. And possibly quite early 50s. Also agree that the tucked or pleated treatment on the front is awesome!

Now, what size did you say that was.... I did read "too big" for the manni. Does that mean it might fit a real live, real-size person? (Like moi, for instance....)

Nice! I'd put it at late '40s, perhaps early '50s - and it's probably made of rayon. Great detailing too.

bust 38"
Waist 30"
Hips 40"
