Brace Yourself

I never gave a thought to men's suspenders/braces until I was at a recent house sale and near the end of the sale we found a suitcase full of incredible, primarily Calvin Curtis braces. Most are in pretty bad condition, but the designs are wonderful...

Sorry that it took a couple of tries to get the image small enough to post, but it may have obscured some of the details, such as Lady Godiva in the second from the left brace strap.

Like Kristine and Bonnie, I have never seen anything like those! They are wonderful! Love the pink elephants. What a character the owner must have been.

Yes, he certainly must have been! I know he was a lawyer and I think he was a judge. Can you imagine seeing your lawyer wearing Lady Godiva to court?

Those are very cool. I've found cool prints on Trafalgar braces, and they always do well for me. Not heard of Calvin Curtis before. Thanks for sharing those.

I am delighted that you all seem to enjoy the braces as much I did. I have attached here an image of the sad part of them, though. A few of them are in very good condition, but most are sloppily repaired as is this pair.

I found a little-tongue-in-cheek but informative article about them with a bit of the history and a source for wonderful new designs.

Wow, so I learned something! Calvin was a prior to Trafalgar, which I love. Those have got to be worth their weight in gold! Very cool indeed!
