BUllocks Wilshire - the BEST Deco department store I think there ever was!

Now that I've looked at all the pictures, I am truly reliving my childhood.

Thanks, Jonathan for posting this.

The Tea Room holds many memories for me. Shall I tell y'all about the time Mom had one too many martinis at lunch there? ;-)

Mary Jane, my breath was taken away when I saw the photo of Eaton's.... Magnificent! How sad that it sits unused; hopefully one day it will be reopened.... I would go to Montreal just to see that.

oh.....

It was about 1957 or 58 & my Mom, her friends "Bobo" & Helen and I went to the Tea Room for lunch.

We were all dressed to the Nines. I remember Bobo had her fox throw on & both she & Mom wore hats.

Mom had a huge Picture Hat on, a beautiful Black eyelet full-skirted dress that she'd made & her favorite DeLiso Debs with matching handbag. (Funny how a memory can be so clear, huh?)
Those shoes were stilettos, and they were a silk print. Sorta abstract, with a cream background, red, green, gold and black. I always wanted those shoes & bag!

Anyway, Mom really wasn't much of a drinker... But that day I guess she had too many martinis (or whatever she was drinking).

As we left, I recall Bobo walking next to her & in retrospect, I believe she was helping Mom stay upright.

We were walking to Bobo's car & we came to the curb. When Mom stepped off the curb she went right down! Her knees were all skinned up & she was so humiliated! Naturally, I ran up to her but everyone shooed me away. I was so upset! I thought at the time that it was my fault someway that she fell & that's why no one wanted me to touch her. Crazy, I know.

Of course I now realize she was just so embarrassed & her friends wanted to protect me from her inebriated state. I guess they thought I shouldn't see her like that.

Regardless, I don't recall her wearing those shoes as often after that. LOL

Somehow even stumbling after 'one-too-many' would be somewhat elegant when dressed so well~

Loved the link and pix guys - thanks for sharing. Even my oldest son was impressed. He came up behind me while I was looking through those images and asked so many questions I finally just emailed the link to him ~
