Common Threads
The saying, "Everything old is new again", couldn't be more accurate than when applied to fashion. Designers have constantly mined the past for inspiration, adding a contemporary twist for relevance.
Gunnie Sax, Laura Ashley, and Ralph Lauren all built their successful brands with reinterpretations of early American frontier garb, Victorian, and Edwardian-era styles. 1940's shoulder pads became a staple of 1980's "power dressing". Peplums, Dolman sleeves and platform shoes are just a few more trends that have experienced major revivals over time.
Ever-evolving, yet always coming back around again... and again, is the common thread in fashion. Just when you think, "clothes were the days!" about a particular trend, wait a decade or two and it's sure to make a comeback. You might experience déjà vu this week when VFG members share their fashion redux, retreads and uncommon vintage threads.
