Snap, I have that cape! Mine has slightly more colour I think and glittery threads running through it. I shall have to go and get pictures now...
perhaps you'd like to check out some of the links on page Mary suggested, in particular the timeline and union label links would help you date your garments.
 
Dress 1 is just a party dress, they liked those sheer capes in the 70s. Could possibly be a prom type dress, but my feeling is not wedding dress.
 
Pinkcoke I really read all the links, im still kinda confused by the Union labels, i feel every label looks different. Im usually right, but im never sure.

I have heard the sheer over layer called a float. Sometimes they are separate, sometimes attached. Definitely 1970's.
