Dating an asian/oriental jacket

Hi,

I am at a loss as to how to date this jacket. It's silk, reversible and has no tag. I would appreciate any input.

I am not good with the Asian stuff but looks fairly modern to me?

But definitely wait for someone who knows this genre better

are there clues that lead you to lean towards a date?
 
I have a very similar jacket:

Mine does have a tag, but I didn't realize it for a long time - it's on the inside of the pocket on the blue side (I usually wore it red side out, so I never looked at the blue pockets!). I got mine at a thrift store about 11 years ago, but I'm not sure exactly how old it is. The "Peony" brand that made my jacket got a mention in this NYT article from 1985, so maybe it's from around that time. They call this quilted jacket style a "min lap".

Also, you might want to do a burn test to see if it actually is silk - mine is rayon, but if it didn't have the tag saying so I would be hard pressed to say if it were silk or not. It feels very silky to the touch.

I never thought to check the pockets, but there was the same tag is yours (minus the dry cleaning tag). Mine may also be rayon and is very silky to the touch. Thank you so much!

Hey, cool! I'm glad to have helped. When I say it took me a while to find the label, I wasn't kidding - I probably had it for five years before I ever suck my hands in the blue pockets and felt it in there! :)
