I am estimating this suit to be 50s but unsure if it is possible 40s , the buttons are rhinestones and not even sure what this type of hat is called nor the era.
Thank you

Hi,

The hat is really wonderful! I cannot make out the label, but it looks like Miss Mary. Miss Mary is not well known to many folks, but she is one of my all time favorite milliners. My brain is foggy right now, but I do know her actual full name. I would date your hat to the early 1950s. It does not seem to be a specific style, but you could call it a cocktail hat or a dinner hat. I have quite a few Miss Mary hats in my collection, and especially love her black hats and black velvet hats. She was a master with black velvet. Her workmanship in the early 1950s was excellent and very fine quality. I think her hats are what you might call "sleepers" that will rise in value in later years.

Miss Alice was another good milliner, does it say Alice or does it say Mary?

I love your hat!

:hiya: Hi Barbara, yes it does say Miss Mary. Thank you so much for the information. One thing I love the most is learning the history of vintage. That was interesting to read, I really appreciate the detailed answer. You are quite knowledgeable when it comes to hats. Do you wear them as well? How long have you been into vintage hats?

:hiya: Hi!! You are welcome. To answer your questions:

Yes, I sure do wear hats, whether antique, vintage or new. I also make hats, and was professionally trained in millinery in NYC over 20 years ago. I have been wearing them since I was a teenager and that was a long long time ago...to long to mention without giving away my age! I have been into hats as a hobby for well over 30 years, and have seriously researched and collected them for about 25 years. Hats are my all consuming passion, can you tell?

Yes, I can tell you have a serious passion for hats. You sure do know alot about them. EH!! Age is just a number { I'm not a spring chicken over here  } I tried to put my name in my post like you have but I don't think I can since I am not a member, but nice to meet you my name is Mary

This suit and the hat of 40s look beautiful and i think its nice for dating purposes. Because this is somewhat unique type of dress, and wonderful. We can also name this hat as cocktail hat. As we all know that old is gold so here this hat as well as suit are vintage designed. Really nice stuff.
