I recently was given this piece and am completely out of my depth with it. Hoping you kind folks can help.

It is a collar (or maybe a capelet? Lol, help!)

My only gut feeling is that it is possibly older than most of the pieces I acquire.

Any thoughts would be lovely, thanks!

  3. It dates to the very early 1900s or perhaps 1890s.

I agree, it looks circa 1900 to me, give or take a couple of years in either direction.

The material is a plush, related to velvet but with a much higher pile. Probably silk plush.

Thank you so much for the responses!

I never find pieces this old and am totally out of my depth with antique clothing. Would this have been worn as outerwear, I assume?

Thank you, Barbara, for identifying the material! It does have the feel of silk (as opposed to cotton)

So thrilled with all the info. Thanks again!
