    Hello,

My mother bought this dress in France and we are struggling to date it. We also wonder if it was a dress that was worn on a specific occasion (work, scout?) as it is quite simple despite nice details and it has a strange unidentified logo.

The fabric seems to be a mix of cotton and linen.

    The logo:

The belt, a pocket and a sleeve:

Some random seams in the inside, there are no serged seams:

Thank you very much, this dress makes me very curious, especially whether or not the logo is purely decorative or if it has a meaning.

I think the logo is a monogram - it looks like HJG? And I think it's a 1940s day dress. Great color. And thank you for all the photos!

Oh I'm sorry, I created the thread in the wrong category. Would moderators want me to re-create a new one or is it fine?

Thank you pastperfect2. Let's see what the others think.

Pretty thing! I agree, 40s, and on the early side of the 40s. You can see some of the same elements in this Sears catalog image from 1940:

It would be hard to say if the dress was a uniform or similar, but it doesn't appear overly utilitarian; I believe the monogram is most likely personal.
