Beautiful bespoke 1950's vintage French bias cut couture full slip in pure shimmering ivory silk with delicate lace edging and delightfully fine applique detail, which I acquired as part of a private collection.

Sublime attention to detail. One of many signs of high quality in couture slips is the join in the bust lace sections. Here between points 'A' and 'B' you see a fine yet rare example where the two pieces of lace have been perfectly and laboriously matched. You can hardly tell it's a join.

Perfectly Perlon! Designed specifically for 'New Look' dresses, this beautifully sheer very early 1950's pure Perlon slip hails from the picturesque and historic town of Limbach-Oberfrohna in the east German state of Saxony. Limbach-Oberfrohna was 'Slip Town' if anywhere was, being a centre of lingerie manufacture in the old DDR. Made by VEB Stern (VEB stands for 'Volkseigener Betrieb' or 'people-owned enterprise'), this particular slip is one of the earliest Perlon slips produced commercially after the fall of the Nazi regime, and made even before the DDR changed the name of their Nylon 6 variants to Dederon. Presumably it was manufactured for export to the West. This is a 'textbook' example of a true Perlon slip - fine, sheer and with pastel tones. Learn more about Perlon here.
