Italian movie star Monica Vitti (born Maria Luisa Ceciarelli) is best known for series of films she made with Michelangelo Antonioni, starting in 1960 with L’avventura, Her cool yet stylish and seductive screen presence made her an international star, as well as a critical success. Vitti’s look in these films of the early 1960s is representative of this pivotal era, straddling the late 1950s “Bombshell” look of hourglass cocktail dresses and later, Mod 1960s styles, including the A-line and shift silhouettes.
