Gold coat this time - what is it?

Do I call this an evening coat, or an opera coat? The fabric is a textured, almost 3-D effect in gold & cream - is there a name for it? The button is unusual - is there a name for this style?<p>

  2. It's pruddy! I don't know what technically makes a coat "opera" versus "evening." I tend to associate "opera" coats or capes with longer length, but have no idea why I do so. :)

    On the fabric... lamé matelasse?

The fabric looks like those modern ones that are treated with latex!! I'm sure it's matelasse though. The button alone is wonderful from what I can see - is it woven?

I tend to think of opera as longer too.

    How about evening cocktail coat

That is gorgeous Margaret I used to have a couple but with no where to go I ended up selling them Watch some day soon I will be invited some place fancy and have nothing to wear.

I would also call it lame matellasse (sp ? I never get it right)

Matelasse - that's what I was trying to recall! Thanks! ;-)

The button seems to be strips of the fabric wrapped or woven around a ring of some sort.

A couple of my 50s catalogues call this length a "stroller" - but that sounds rather pedestrian for such a glam coat as this!

I would also go with matelasse lame.
