Thank you! the size helped - it was a 10/12

and it went to a client who is not afraid of shoulder pads

That's awesome!

And the suit is breathtaking!

Bravo!

No wonder, it is utterly gorgeous :headbang:!

Speaking of shoulder pads - I wasn't into them - they easily look wayyy to big on me, and any 80s piece that I tried on in a secondhand shop looked pretty ridiculous, but I don't mind them at all in my 40s pieces, somehow they knew how to do it then, and the overall shape looks great.

as a bonus, a pir of shoes went with it!

Seriously, these are the biggest 40s shoulders I have seen since 1992.

Joules, I would have sooooo worn that Victor Costa in 1970. Except that I was a pre-teen, and my mother would not have let me wear black and rhinestones.

Now I wear black and rhinestones, but it's too big and it violates my personal rule of wearing vintage: If I could have worn it the first time, I skip it as vintage. I stick to the 50s and back except for jewelry.

Fabulous suit!!!

Interesting rule, Hollis. I've broken it - LOL. I bought a '60's dress from Maggie right afer I joined this forum and I so would have worn it the first time around! In general though, I stick to the '50's and earlier because I like the styles.

I have a hard time thinking of '80's as vintage since there is some still lurking in my closet! But I do have an '80's dress that was sold to me as '50's. I didn't question it at the time and it was only after I found the RWB Union label in the side seam of the skirt (and looked at the nylon zip) that I figured it out.

I try to wear "period" jewelry or older when I wear vintage but of course there are exceptions!

Linn

Linn, I think part of it is the clothing of the 60s didn't suit me colorwise the first time around and both the 60s the 70s was so youth oriented it looks silly on me now. I look better in 40s and some 50s. And a few 20s dresses, depending on the line. I have rocked a Victorian bustle dress, but how often can I do that?

I think we each have a least one era we look fantastic in.

Hollis -

The '60's clothes I like are the ones prior to the "youth quake" - very Jackie and early "Mad Men." '40's and '50's are my fav's and most of my vintage wardrobe is from those two decades. I love wearing '50's circle skirts with modern V- neck "tees" and have several cotton shirtwaist's. I also love sundresses from this period. Perfect for here.

Love to see a picture of you "rocking" a Victorian bustle dress!

I'll have to get out my enormously shoulder padded 40s jacket and take it out for a spin. Maybe if shoulder pads come back in, I'll know what to do with it (accessorizing). The one I have with modest pads I wear all the time but the big pads are a bit daunting for my frame.

But of course, its obviously not as fantastic as Hollis's suit...fabulous :fainting:

I actually tried this jacket on in hopes it would fit. But too tall and a bit too big and the shoulders on my 5-2 frame - just no.

Shoulders are back, just not 1980s shoulders. I think 40s shoulders may be good.

Linn, I had this 1889 dress I have since sold that actually fit me some years ago when I was more petite. No corset required which made me happy. A friend and I did a promenade in our old dresses at a show - it was great fun. And we got a surprising number of compliments.

None of me in it. But here's the thumbnail:
