My brother would absolutely die and go to heaven if only his head weren't so huge. That hat is 2die4!

Those tortoise shell clips remind me of that O. Henry story....

I love that cossack and the kangol! Esp the way you have the black and white photo of the kangol.

Is that top hat beaver?

Margaret, I have a top hat which looks identical to yours. Is it beaver?
or seal?

I have NO idea! - and don't know the difference! ;-) It is very smooth and silky, the "furry" stuff is only about ¼" long and lies flat, giving that shiney look.
If you go have a look at the images in my Mall listing, the one of the crown of the hat shows it best, I think.

Pauline - the B&W shots of theKangol were purely by accident as I hadn't realised I'd changed the setting on my camera! I decided I quite liked them, so kept them! :)

No - absolutely not felt - its just the usual thing these old hats are made from, but I don't know what it is called! :(

These are almost really fine, glossy beaver fur, although you do see opera top hats in silk. The collapsible ones are always silk.

I have seen white beaver toppers form the ealry Victorian years in museum collections

Thanks Hollis - now if I could just get that info INTO the old grey cells for next time, it would help! :)
