Have you seen this cute cotton swimsuit?

Hi all,

Have you seen this swimsuit before? It's cobalt blue cotton with shirred back, ruched front and bodice, halterneck strap and - the best bit - three rows of frills to the hips, trimmed in white ric rac.

It looks awfully familiar to me, I'm sure I've seen this style in an ad somewhere. The suit does not have any tags.

Also: do you think it's early '50s?

Thanks for chiming in, Mary Jane - I wondered that too. I went searching for '50s swimsuit ads and found several that had this very hip-heavy silhouette, in the 'fifties, up to about '56 - but the feeling I get is late '40s too. The ric rac trim looks '40s to me too, plus the colour.

Just a quick shot Nicole, but this was in my Symmington swimwear collection book from 1954, it is also halterneck, fitted on the front only, and decorated with frills and white ric rac:
