Have You Sold Vintage to a Famous Person?

Putting together info and pics for a blog post. We are highlighting stars who wore vintage (and wore it well) and then showing some current vintage offerings to help people recreate the look. I am trying to find pics/photos of anyone famous wearing vintage. There is plenty on the internet but I thought I would check to see if anyone here has some firsthand knowledge of a certain dress or outfit because they actually sold the item.

I realize some of you may not want to discuss or breach privacy but if you are able to share, would love to hear your story for our blog post.

Thanks!
Maureen

I sold this 50s Claire McCardell dress to Tracey Ullman, she wore it to host the CFDA Awards in 2009 (seen here w/ Zac Posen)

Hi Ang,

Do you mind if I use your pic in blog - of course you will get full mention and link to your website too!

LOVE IT! Exactly what I am looking for.

Let me know if okay with you.

Thanks!

Sarah Jessica Parker for Sex and the City via Patricia whatshername... the costumer.
Sharon Stone - WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY back in the late 90s through eBay.
Dita Von Teese - also WAAAAAAAAAAAAY back in the late 90s through eBay.
Hamish Bowles - if he counts as famous.
Plus there were some others too, but I have forgotten. I know I have had a couple of singers from bands, but I don't know if they ever became known or not.

Jonathan - do you have any pics? Sounds sooo amazing! Even if you know of any that are up online I could use.

I might have the best blog post EVER!

Thanks all!

I didn't even know who Dita Von Teese was until after the fact (it was a 40s hat I sold her). I do have a pic of the Dior dress Hamish Bowles bought from me, but I would feel a bit weird about it being republished as I no longer own the dress. The Sharon Stone coat I don't have a pic of and I never found one of her wearing it (it was a 70s brown velvet coat printed with butterflies), so the only one I know of is the Sex and the City coat worn by Sarah Jessica Parker. It was a mid 20s evening coat and they took off the white fur collar and removed the white silk lining. I had a pic of the coat being worn by SJP for the longest time but I think I just eliminated it a couple of months ago... I will see if I can find it. It was the episode where she goes for a horse and buggy ride with Big and then she has to run across town in time for Miranda to give birth and her water breaks all over Carrie's new Blahniks.

I think I can work with it - do you mind me using for blog post? Will of course tell story and give you credit. Please let me know if okay.

I think what happened is they bought the coat from me took off the collar and relined it with that tie dye lining (the original lining did have some damage to it and was fragile), and then put their name onto it for restyling the coat. I remember when I sold it that the buyer said they were buying it for Patricia Fielding for SATC and I assumed it was an assistant who was getting it, but it might have been them. I kept an eye out that entire season for that coat and it finally showed up in that episode (which I think was the last episode of that season, or the second to last...)

Sorry no pics :( but I sold a dress from my website to Diana Krall (quite a while ago) and sent her complimentary tickets to the Manhattan Vintage show. I never expected her to come but she did AND so did her husband Elvis Costello (my rock and roll husband was over the moon). She bought a pretty 1940s dress at the show and was a lovely person. I wish I had a picture, I heard she often wears vintage to perform. What a gorgeous voice she has.... like liquid silk.

I also sold a Halston gown once to a woman who worked with that pretty young man from Twighlight, she was wearing it to the awards. She is not famous but I was excited my dress was going to the Oscars! Again no pics :(

I've also sold to a lot of designers and stylists but I think you are talking celebrities....

I sold some dresses to Mad Men for Christina Hendricks as Joan to wear, but never spotted them on the show...

I also sold a 70's signature print dress to Joan Rivers! Again, no pics, though...
