Help dating Mister Ease by Rochester Red Wool Vest

Hi Everyone,
Am I looking at 1940s 50s or 60s here. This vest is a little unusual as it has an almost jersey knit back. The buttons are opalescent. Would this have been part of a smoking ensemble? Thanks alot, Lauren
