Hello everyone, I am very new. today actually!!! I posted oh the new "freinds" blog. So I was wondering about this dress. I am so new to this and have been doing lots of research but I would like experts opinions! How can I tell the materials apart. I like 40's - 60s vintage. I believe this dress to be late 50s early 60s but I could be way off. Is a meatal taylor zipper, basic square style. But down the center of the back. The tag looks to be hand sewn into the back no care or size (which leads me to believe early 60s or older. Says "Made especially for you by Marion" and it is printed chiffon over a basic pink, Don't know what kind of chiffon. It has white raised velvety print on it too? what is that stuff lol? Thank you all for your time and I aoplogize for my ignorance in advance! But I can not learn if I do not ask!

ummm? i cannot get the pitures to upload how do I do that?? new to bloggin too :-( wahhh

Well, we know it is hand/home made by the tag. Those were commercially available to seamstresses to sew into garments. I have a few from local gals in my neighborhood.
That said, some of the traditional date clues go out the window, such as the metal zipper. A seamstress could have had a stash of zippers that she drew from, so even when nylon ones were in the stores, she may have used metal.
Style-wise, I would say 70s on this.

Welcome! I'm no good on the decade, but I have a neighbor who still uses those labels!

ETA: A scanner is good for label close-ups, as is putting your camera on the macro setting (extreme close-up).;)

Another vote for 70s. I had several dresses similar to this
(yes, bridesmaids) in the early 70s.

The raised velvety feel on the chiffon would make this a
flocked chiffon or more likely, flocked organdy - I'll have to go
ack and look at the pics again.

Welcome btw! And, good for you asking questions, that is how we all got started.

Sue
