Hi everyone,
I'm stumped with this one. The photos are not great, so maybe I need to redo with better light....1970s? Later?
It's hard to tell from the photos but it does flare out toward the hem.
Also, it's an unusual throat flap with that heavy buckle....at first I thought it had been put on after it was made but I think it was part of original.
Thanks for any help
Lauren

What a gorgeous fur. So rich looking. And that lining is wonderful! I am also seeing earlier in the 1960s decade versus later. Is my eye fooling me, or is the waistline slightly higher than natural, almost an empire line? That would also go along with the earlier 60s dating. It is really wonderful.

It is a little higher Barbara, you can see it a bit better in this shot.
The button thing does not actually button anything the furrier hooks on the throat piece act as the closure. The one ring looks like Mother of Pearl to me but I am not great with that sort of thing. It's a very heavy little disc.
Is there a good name for this sort of throat flap collar treatment?

My first impression was an art deco style influence with that deep tab collar and straighter shape, so I'm thinking 1960s does 1920s revival, or early 1950s does 1930s?

Sort of unusual style with that back however the front appears to be 70s and that lining is definitely 70s.

The raised waistline, princess seaming and fuller slightly (?) skirted back, and the lining all indicate mid 1960s to me. Also, the off center closure line in front and the high throated collar have a very circa 1965 look. I will have to differ with Caryn, to me the lining is not definitely 1970s, I see a 1960s styling in that lining. But different eyes see different things. The button is throwing me, it looks like a lucite type plastic, and seems an odd choice for such a thick heavy fur. But I like it, it adds interest.

Though I cannot get a good look at the way the collar works, it could be described as a wrap collar.

Ok, I looked back at this coat because my mind was only focused on looking for 70s features because of that lining. I am 150% sure that the lining is 70s, maybe early 80s at the latest because this was a very common lining furriers were using at the time. I have had sooooo many fur coats with that exact lining, not just similar style but the same color, stripes and all.

The label is an older one though and overall style of the coat looks older as well. The collar which looks like a scarf collar to me and the fitted sleeves give me an early 60s vibe. The bottom of the coat looks sort of 50s.

What I know based on that label that the coat is an older coat. The lining has been replaced, the monogram looks newer too, and that button is a later addition as well.

I wish I could touch this coat in person because one cannot tell if a coat has been restyled by viewing photos but I would likely be able to tell if I looked at the skin side. It just really does not look like one era to me. The best I could guess if not restyled would be 50s/60s.

Interesting, and thanks for all the input. I'll get some better shots of it on a model in the next while. So probably 60s altered in the 70s?

Looking at this again, I think its a matronly style and does date from the early 1970s. The flared skirt and big button were throwing me, as well as the material (sheared beaver seems so 50s to me...) The lining is very 70s and it looks original, so it could just be Lisa Trojan's choice.
