I had this lace dress dated as 1940's when I bought it, now I am thinking no it is not, just looks to fancy for early 1940's the war and all than , late 40's may be the the same thing, so is it 50's or even 1960.

Could it even have been once a wedding dress ,not a church ,but a registry office wedding.
It is cream lace top to bottom with a purple flower at the waist bottom photo and lined in cream satin sort of fabric. No lable, so it looks a little home made.

Any thoughts on it's date would be appriciated.
Thanks Paul

There are no buttons or Zip anywhere it just slips over you head, it's ok for putting it on, for a lady I cannot help to think it is not the most dignified way especially to take off.

Hmm, the shape of it looks like a late 40's/ early 50's cusper- what's it lined in? What is the lace made from? Is it nylon or does it feel more natural like cotton or even rayon?

Lei

Lei, the lining has a sheen to both sides it has the appearance of quality silk, it certainly is not possibility rayon! and the lining is not wearing as well and showing it's age , the lace I think is cotton is it very floppy and not got that net certain feel.
that might not still add up right.
As Harriet says it is pretty slightly to girly for me but I like it !:spin:

I think it is a cusper Paul, by the sounds of the lace and the way the lining is wearing, it sounds like some cusper 40's/50's things I've had. It is were later, the lace would have been stiffer as it would have been most likely made from nylon. The floppy cotton lace sounds right for late 40's and the first half of the 50's.
If not pure silk then it also sounds like your lining may be rayon/silk blend or even "parachute silk".

Lei

Thank you all for you sharing your knowledge I can live with those date very happily and the parachute silk for the lining very possible as where it is going it looks like some silk I used for silk painting when I have damaged it.
Also Linda it has no zip or anything , it is so hard to take off so that's why I do not were it much ,could explain why the lace is in good condition as the original owner did not wear it also. You really need a maid to help with it.

That would be nice, house work done for you also.
