Help with dating a taffeta suit

Hi all. Could anyone help me date this? It's taffeta with a velvet trim. The skirt has a side metal zipper. The jacket has small shoulder pads which makes me lean towards late 40s/early 50s? It appears to be home made. Hopefully there are enough pictures to help with dating, if not let me know and I'll take some more

The top has a 1940's feel to it. Has the skirt been shortened? It should be longer for either 1940's or 1950's.
