For the secand time this year a staff member in a local charity shop said in a loud voice
"He's the man who wear women clothes" when the shop was full.

So I sent the head of human resorces of the charity shop the following email about this, i removed the names but every thing else is what I said

Dear *** ******

I am really upset that I have to bring this to your attention at all as this is the second time that this has happen to me in your Harrogate shop .

I have decided that it is worth informing you about this.

I use your Starbeck shop on a regular basis popping in once or twice a week for the last few years to have a look at your stock I often buy items depending if you have any thing that I like,

I fully appreciate that these shops are staffed by volunteers who give up there valuable time, however this in my opinion is no reason to be rude and make comment about the customers whilst the customer is in the shop and even
more upsetting when the shop is full of other customer.

One of the staff members this afternoon a said in a voice loud enough for me to here apart from every on in the shop at the same time.

“That’s the man who wears women’s clothes”

To either a another staff member or even worse another customer. This as I said above is the second time this has happened on a Monday after noon.

I fully appreciate that ever one has there own right to their opinion what ever it maybe and can express that in private to others this is different.

This lady is perfectly right with the fact that I do wear ladies clothes and I am proud of this but prefer for obvious reason to keep this to myself and it’s not any of her business

As I have never been into any of your shops wearing ladies clothes, I do not see what business it is of your staff members what I do in my private life or what I do with any of my purchases, apart from conveying private life
to every one in the shop and in full hearing of all your other customers.

As I said I do go into many charity shops in Harrogate and elsewhere apart from main retailers and in 30 year as an adult this is the first shop where the staff have openly commented on the shop floor in front of
me about my lifestyle even if they know or not.

I would also like to say all your other volunteers in this shop seam very nice it’s just one lady who work in it on a Monday afternoon who seams to have a attitude.

I hope you will look into this matter and I am looking forward to your reply

Yours sincerely

Paul.

I just sick of people attitudes here in the UK of a few , thank goodness i have some freinds here and one or two else where or I go mad.

Pauline,

My sympathies on what happened, and you were correct to write to her superiors. How shabby and ignorant of that woman (I will not call her a lady).

You ROCK ON with your lady self! I enjoy your posts and your honest passion for our fashion.

Barbara

Exactly. I hope that her boss appreciates your comments - I know that I would. If one of my staff was behaving inappropriately I'd be very glad to hear about it.

We do have a few cross-dressing customers and that's why I put a "rainbow" sticker on the front door, so that people can see that we do not make judgments about people's lifestyle choices.

Update
I have now had a few email thanking me for bring it to there attention and I am told the Chief Executive has read my email and has appointed a lady to look into it. and she now asked for a description.

she said she get back to me no later then Friday, 16 May 2010. So my confidence has some what subsided with that date or do I also need glasses?

I like that response!! I'm glad you wrote that letter. Too many people would feel intimidated to speak out. You rock!:excited:

Oh Pauline, i'm so sorry this happened to you. Sadly, "discrimination" isn't limited to just the UK, we have it here as well.

a firm beliver in "live and let live"..i am thrilled you wrote that letter, you were very justified. They would not know of ths woman's rudeness had you not brought it to their attention.

I hope the outcome is wonderful. a nice, fat gift certificiate and written apology from the sales clerk are in order. :)
