My mom & I went to the opera yesterday. She had invited me, since one of my all-time favorites, the rare "La Fanciulla del West" by Puccini was on. It's the first time actually that I've seen the same opera the 2nd time around (the first time being in October '08 in Montreal), which means quite a lot for me.
We've been totally snowed it, yesterday the whole city was just one big white-out, so no chance to wear the long silk dress I'd wanted to wear, as I had get across the city by tram. So, it was time for my "newest" 40s dress. I guess it's cotton velvet, and there's quite a bit of fading, especially on one sleeve (it might have hung on a rack in a shop for some time I guess), so it didn't cost a lot. However, apart from the fading, it is in tip top condition, no other issues, and the shape is just too gorgeous! And since almost everybody else seemed to be dressed in black... it stood totally out. Well, there were two relatively long intervals, so I had ample time to parade it all around
.
My mom gave the dress clip - she had wanted to sell it, but I knew it would be perfect for this. The bag is vintage too, by "After 5". It's my favorite evening bag.
There are no labels in the dress, and there's also a fair amount of hand sewing on it. Side metal zip. I guess it was home made. It fits me as if it had been made for me, and it just shows what I love about the 40s - incredible tailoring. Here's a look at it's back:
Let's just say, that dress does incredible things to my backside
. Oh well, all else too. It's just one of the most figure-flattering dresses I've ever worn.
