(found them on ebay, of all places, and they price was amazingly affordable, for a change.)

Have you found anything that was right up your alley lately?

YES but still too poor to afford the phenomenal low price!

They are adorable :headbang: and I am happy for you! I can't wait until tax returns so I can get some new vintage for me! not to sell lol

well I will when I get it Jan 20th for military,,, I convirntly loose money in my vintage ventures so I never report this. I am a home maker and I have all of my receipts so I just go off Hubbys military W2

I consider things like laptops, PC, cell phones, cameras office space in my house all as write offs which they should be and I manage to stay under.... but boy is my personal closet growing lol!

Those are fabulous Joules!

I went out the other day and managed to get a desk 2010 calandar at the thrift and a book DH has been looking for. Also came home with a1940s black seal fur cape. I took it up to the counter to see if I could get it marked down from $40 as it needed a repair to one of the pelts. The manager told me $20. Cool, then she came back and said, let's do $15. I said sure. While waiting for the cashier she came back and said 'Why don't you just take this, were not supposed to sell anything with damage' HA! It's for my niece who is just getting into fur, it's her hold grail right now. Needless to say they will be getting all of my donations this year.

My best friend is so weird; she loves filing and doing taxes and things, so she can't wait to file hers, but like you, she has to wait for certain papers to arrive. I'm a down-to-the-wire taxes person, like my father.
She who dies with the most clothes, wins, I say. You can always sell it later on down the line, and why not enjoy it, along the way.

Pam, thank you!
Now, that is some nice, focused thrifting. And it goes to show, it never hurts to ask nicely. Your niece wil love that item, I'll bet.

I finally found a 1940s dress for myself, last weekend, when I was in Vienna. I had just a short 15 minutes time to rifle through the racks and try things on at one of my fave thrift shops - this one fell into my hands first thing, and knowing the Humana shops, I had though it wasn't going to be too cheap - but wonder, oh wonder, it was only 15 Euros! It's a bit crinkled, but intact, complete with shoulder pads, matching belt and interesting label which has made me think about contact the fashion department of the museums of Vienna to see if they know more about this... I'll show it here later, once I've got it ironed and straightened out a bit. :spin:

Oh and how could I forget, I also found something for me. Ever since the movie Julie and Julia (fab movie) I've been coveting a Julie Child cookbook. Yesterday I found 'The Art of French Cooking' by none other than Julia Child. Do I need to worry about my waistline?

Good for you Marty, and especially nice that it's received the much-coveted "Seal of Approval". It sounds really lovely!

Karin, you made great use of time! That's a lot of pressure, but you zeroed in on the prize. We'll look forward to seeing it; it sure is getting harder to find the good forties things.

Pam, my Mom was a devoted Julia Child follower, both watching the show, and cooking from that very book.
My Mom is an excellent cook; me, not so tremendous, but I go for plain and simple nutrition.

I found a terrific late '40's dress at a new shop in my town that is mostly a consignment/second hand shop. I asked if they had any vintage and she pulled this from the back. It is worn with a full black slip underneath. The original was a bit shattered. I repaired it but have another full black slip that is probably more reliable. It wasn't "free" but a good buy and it's a great dress!

Photos were lightened to show the detail. It's sheer but you cannot see through the smocking.

Thanks, Pam -

I haven't worn it yet. Thought about it for New Year's Eve but it was a cool evening and we were outside part of the time so I settled on another black '40's cocktail dress with sleeves.

I have a feeling that I have purchased the one and only vintage dress that shop will ever have - LOL but I left my name and number in case....

Marty, it's a wonderful coat. Luxurious, and yet practical and versatile to wear, with so many things.

And thank you so much, about the polish. I just had a pedicure on Tuesday, and the color is called Disco Inferno, of all things! It's a spa brand; shall try to recall the name.

Whoa! Can't believe I found it:

Linn, I had gone for months without one, and this was the best pedicure of my life, at Two Bunch Palms Resort. (Gift from dear BF).
And you know what that's like, as I'm in flip flops or barefoot, a lot of the time!
