Can you give me a date? Swirls use to be popular. I wonder how they are doing now.:puzzled:

Thanks! From the Label Resource which I should have checked earlier, I think it would be late 50s.

I am going to take a picture with a little less fuller crinoline and see how it looks. Will post it later.

Looks a lot like a bandana print Linda - which used to be a searchable
set of keywords (don't know how it is doing now).

I was going to say that this was a cusper - late 50s/early 60s.

This is a really arresting Swirl. I've seen some where the print is
rather mundane, but the red on this is wonderful!

Sue

Yes, I was surprised my camera would take such good pics of red. Bandana print! Those are great keywords!

Here is another picture with not so full a crinoline.

Yes, Lizzie. What do you think? She's scheduled to go up for auction tonight but I can still change things.

I'm not an expert, not yet, anyway! I think the last set of pictures is perfect! I agree with Sue that this is probably late 50s, or possibly early 60s. No matter, as it is really cute!

I really can't add anything to what is on the label resource blurb. That's why I'm doing a workshop later this summer on this company - it will force me to do the research I've been meaning to do for 2 years! The factory that made these is only about 2 hours drive from me, and so a mini-road trip is in order.

One thing, I bet that's not the original button. They almost always had kind of a signature button that had a swirl incised into it.

Well, well, I do learn something every day. I will go check again but I don't think it has any type of swirl. Thanks, Lizzie!

Lizzie, it does have the swirl button!

Yep - I think the last pics (with a subtle crinoline) fit the bill. Swirls were - not quite housedresses, but not so many steps away, either - so those last shots show the dress to its maximum stylish advantage without seeming like you're trying to make it something it's not.

I sold a Swirl once - years ago - and I'm wondering if it had those signature buttons.

Bandana print seems like a great keyword(s). Aren't bandana prints assoc. w/RAB (as well as gangs?) :D

Carolyn

WOW!!! Now I know something about the "Swirlie" buttons I find every now and then! Thanks!

Oh, and, this dress looks kind of "square dancy/western feel"...maybe vintage country style? I could be way off base on that though!

Patti

I just thought of something. Should I save these types of buttons when I find them in case any of us needs an authentic replacement?

Patti

Patti, never thought about the western angle. Hmmmm

Yes, I think you should save those swirly buttons and promote them for those who have lost them of their Swirl wrap dresses! Good idea!

NOTE TO SELF - Must check this forum daily and read all post. I just sold a really cute swirl on Ebay(for next to nothing). Of cource I didn't know that it was anything special. I did show a picture of the tag with the dress, but I didn't promote it as a swirl....it was just a really cute wrap dress....:violins:

...Lesson learned. You guys are an amazing source of knowledge.

There will be a Swirl workshop in August here. (check it out!)

I would think the western angle would be viewing it from the bandanna print angle
