Is anyone familiar with the 30\'s designer Agnes?

I have this 30's Adaptation Agnes rayon crepe dress and jacket -

The label would indicate that this is a copy of an Agnes design. There was a Parisian milliner in the 20's called Agnes, and I've found quite a bit of information on her - but nothing that says she created anything but hats.

If any of you have information on a French clothing designer (20's - 30's) named Agnes, please let me know.

Carolyn, I've been reading and researching this, and all I can find are references to the milliner. The address might be our best clue. And one reference I found mentioned that she did "other accessories" what those could be.

I'll be working on her.

Thanks Lizzie! And using the address to search for info is a great idea (that never ever would've occured to me - duh).

I found Agnes mentioned in NY Fashion, Fairchild's and Couture - all regarding her hats - turbans especially - & her use of patterns derived from the avant garde artists of her time.

As far as Agnes on the web - well, you can't search for a French designer named Agnes without finding a zillion links to Agnes B. I couldn't, anyway :)

Found it! The House of Agnes was formed in Paris around the turn of the century. In 1931 it merged with Drecoll (A Vienna based firm) to form Agnes-Drecoll. A young Jean Louis worked there in the early 1930s.

I was totally gobsmacked to see your post to this thread - I had given up hope on finding any info at all on <i>le vrai</i> Agnes! Thank you SO much for your help!

In an odd coincidence, I was just researching the designer Jacques Esterel :) - right above his bio in Fairchild's is --- Drecoll! The very house Agnes designed for. But there's no mention of her work there.

Found this for ya! Gotta make up for the wrong info I gave you earlier

In 1929, the Besancon daughter Maggy, took over Drecoll with her husband Pierre. In the same year, Drecoll merged with the house of Beer. In 1931 a further merger took place with the house of Agnes, which had been established since 1906.

Agnes-Drecoll closed its doors in 1963.

Theres more but at my sis's salon right now. Just do a search on Drecoll Veinna Fashion in google. Gotta run
