Is anyone familiar with this style or trend? layered rayon...

I can't think of any other way to describe it, but it's a slim sheath/wiggle dress covered on the bust and skirt with horizontal layers, accented with a cut-out ^ in the middle. Here, maybe you can see better in the picture:

Has anyone seen this anywhere? What else can I call it except the above convoluted and unclear description...?
Here's the back...

Thanks!

This dress is stunning! I've seen similar to the back & skirt treatments, but nothing quite like the bodice! I'm not sure if there's a term for it, and neither of my sewing books pictures or describes this. But I've always thought of it as horizontal pleating. Not all your areas are horizontal, but pleating is all I can think of to call it! Draped pleating, shaped pleating? Figure-hugging draped pleats?

Phew! Thanks for the better terminology! It wouldn't have occurred to me to call them pleats, although on the skirt it's arguably closer to that.

The top is actually all of a piece put together in a kind of bolero-ish effect over the basic shell, but attached to the main body at the top.

Now for some nifty keyword work...

Definitely horizontal pleated tucks! Most definitely 50s! I have a dress like this in cobalt blue. Gorgeous! How big is it? I need a little black dress. :) Or is the dress navy blue? Thank you-

Thanks! It's solid black - I guess the picture has that ambiguous lightened-black-photo look. I have to check the measurements again, but if I remember rightly it's a slightly unforgiving 34-26-36 (the last one being the unforgiving part, from my point of view...)
