I am right in think9ing this is 60s??? - aren't I? What's throwing me is the heavy duty metal zipper in the side seam - which I always think of as being earlier????

The dress is unlined, and very well made but no tags/labels.

  2. No, that looks earlier to me. Maybe late 40s, early 50s. <p>Looks like your manny's out in the backyard trying to get a tan!

Thanks! ;-) - and I was the one with the sunburn that day!

When I first got this dress and saw the metal zipper, I thought 40s!!! - then when it got on the manni, I thought it had a more 50s into 60s feel, but the zipper didn't seem right!

    Mmmm!???

Margaret, it looks very eary 60s to me, especially at that length. Does it seem to be the original length?

    Lovely color!

wartime 40s skirts were short, but this looks a bit shorter than
normal. I definitely think it is earlier than 60s, especially with the side
metal zipper and even that irridescent taffeta.

Is is possible that it has been shortened?

I think what you got there is a dress from the late 40s/early 1950s that was chopped in the early 60s for the more fashionable knee length. That scalloping and sleeve style is very common in the late 40s/early 50s, as is that irridescent rayon taffeta. I will bet it had a matching belt with a little rectangular buckle covered with the same material as the dress too.

Yeah! - thanks everyone!! Like Linda, its good to know your first guess was right I should have stuck with my original guesstimate! ;-)
Thanks Jonathan - you've cleared up just what was throwing me about the dress! I'll go double check the hem line, I thought it was original and not shortened, but need to recheck!

Just knew I'd get the answers here - thanks! ;-)
