It’s Bowie’s Birthday

David Bowie’s influence on fashion is undeniable. He is the ultimate rock star, shedding each persona like a skin and emerging fresh with an eye to the future. From the 1960s clean cut English pop singer David Jones in a classic cut skinny Mod suit he became a late 60s bohemian long-haired folk singer.

Bowie’s rise to fame and domination of the rock world began in the early 1970s as androgynous glam rock icon Ziggy Stardust. Some of the outrageous tour costumes were designed by Kansai Yamamoto; he wore painted leotards, one-legged jumpsuits, capes, monstrous platform shoes…all topped off with a shock of signature red hair. Flamboyant glam transitioned into a quieter version of himself as the Thin White Duke, dressed in a tuxedo vest, white shirt and black trousers.

From the 80s through today Bowie has been impeccably dressed in exquisitely tailored suits, and fine coats, always accessorized brilliantly. Join us as we celebrate the January 8th birthday of this fashion icon.

Freaky-good video, Carla!!

In one number, he wears a cardboard costume that does not move and has to be carried on and off stage!

I'm having SO much fun looking at a lot of the songs videos and all his personas for postings to the FB Parade page, this week.
