Besides reflecting color trends in fashion, beauty, design and home decor, the Pantone Color Institute's Color of the Year also serves as a mood ring of sorts, capturing the spirit of the time. In years with undercurrents of uncertainty, that has often meant choosing colors that are meant to soothe, calm or uplift.
This year, two colors were chosen: the vibrant yellow Illuminating and Ultimate Gray, the first ever neutral shade to be selected. According to Pantone's press statement, Illuminating is associated with optimism and vivacity, while Ultimate Gray encourages feelings of composure, steadiness and resilience.
As the cool gray of June makes way for the bright, sunny days of summer, VFG members invite you to embrace both colors in all things vintage.
