Coco Chanel designed elegant yet unfussy clothing, and she’s credited with the now-classic little black dress. It’s difficult to imagine now, but the simplicity and the color were both quite unexpected in the 1920s when the LBD was new.

Celebrating Chanel’s August 19 birthday, VFG members parade their best LBDs by all makers and from all eras.
