Let's Give Thanks for... Here at the VFG we all love different eras and styles. Some people specialize in various types of garments and accessories. This week the VFG members give thanks for their very own favorite vintage. Since we have a number of new Trade Members; just a reminder, you may post up to 5 pictures to this thread.
Great idea for a theme! My favorite decade of fashion is the 1940s. I love the padded shoulders, the nipped in waists, the rayon print dresses, the wide and vibrant neckties, and the platform heels. All available at magsrags.net Oh, and hats. I love the hats too.
Maggie, I love the 40s too! Those shoes of yours... I have a similar pair that still fits me but I can't walk in them as well as I used to OK, speaking of shoes... I'm with you Maggie and M.S., about the 40s...and I straight out need those shoes (to fit me!). I love shoes. My personal favorites are exactly the same as yours. But as a vintage dealer I am also thankful for 1950s clothing because it seems to sashay out the door quickly. i.e. this 1950s leopard-print satin skirt (still for sale!) I'm also thankful I live in a part of the world (dry, cold winters) that isn't too hard on clothing, like this hole-free cashmere coat Lastly, I'm thankful for the color pink, without which I might have to make do. *shudder*
As much as I love any vintage - I too keep coming back to the 40s - just love the silhoutte with the nipped waist, shoulder pads and just below the knee dresses and skirts. Of course I love all else too - the hats, the shoes, the bags... the hairstyles! Here are my best 40s patterns: Simplicity 4756 - lovely bedjackets and slippers! B 36, unused. Simplicity 1427 - clever day dress, best made from two contrasting fabrics or with stripes in different directions! B 32 Simplicity 1526 - timeless day dress with inverted pleats and long or short sleeves. B 34 McCall 6277 - great dress with interesting neckline! This could make a glamourous cocktail dres... B 32 Simplicity 1796 - three blouses with with short or bishop sleeves. B 32 Karin

I am thankful for coats. Especially now when it is below freezing outside. Or they are thankful for me; they seem to follow me home. I love their warmth, luxurious fabric, flattering lines, interesting design details and buttons, how they cover everything underneath, and how they make us feel safe and secure. 1940's National Recovery Board Wool Swing Back Long Coat 2-415 16/18 1940's Briny Marlin Black Wool Gabardine Swing Back Coat 3-404 14/16 Eddie Bauer Goose Lined All Weather Double Breasted Coat 11-406 12/14 1950's Golden Blonde Mink Collar A-Line Black Wool Coat 2-416 12/14 1970's Tailored Red Wool Juli de Roma Belted Coat 8-404 10/12
