Levi's Shirt Dating/Legit Check?

Hi wbh750, thanks for posting. Believe me, it's my pleasure to share all of the info I've shared. I never really expected a big response, just doing it for fun and hoping that an occasional person like yourself would find it interesting and worthwhile. And just to remind everyone, I didn't even start this thread. I arrived here via a web search the same way that you did, wbh. Anyway, don't be shy about sharing what you have, what you love about them, and what you might be looking for. Thanks again.

Definitely 90s. My late husband had a bunch from this era... around mid-late 90s.

I have a couple of the basic rivet button style (two open pockets) from the early 2000's also. It seems that "Made in Bangladesh" labels are predominant from that time. The collar labels gradually changed (got smaller and simpler), and they stopped putting dates on most of them, but those shirts are otherwise much the same, and of the same quality as the ones (of the same style) from the 90's.

Nice. That faded blue is one of the classic colors. Your label dates to either 2000 (probably from Indonesia) or 2001 (probably from Bangladesh). In 2002, they went to an all-red label of about the same size, with white lettering. And just to clarify, yours might have had a white (inner side seam) label with a date. Many were dated up to around 2004, I think.

Yes the second neck tag was removed on the blue one so the side seam tag probably was too. As to what I’m hunting for- the burnt orange color would be cool, and I still haven’t found the right sized black model which would replace my originally purchased shirt that is now too small. I need 24” ptp and 31” neck to waist.

You're on a roll! :) The burnt orange color is less common, but I will keep my eyes open (and you seem to prefer about the same size as me). As mentioned earlier, I actually have two different shades of burnt orange / rust, so they're out there. The red is a relatively common color, but still one of my favorites. Black is also relatively common, and it shouldn't be too difficult to find one that's perfect for you. When I've run into sizing problems with purchases, I generally just donate them to Goodwill.

It's a bit odd how the actual sizes of these shirts can vary as much as they do. I've seen shirts labeled as "L" that have ranged from 23" to 26" pit-to-pit. Not only that, I just bought a "Levis For Women"-labeled "advertising" shirt (company branding on one of the front pockets). It's a women's size "M", and it's 24" pit-to-pit!
(gender labeling and reverse-buttons don't deter me at all when it's a shirt I want)

Here's the "Jeans For Women" shirt I mentioned. Only one I've seen like it, and I've never seen these particular buttons either.

I would say so, generally. There were some slight variances in the weight of the fabrics, which isn't too surprising considering how many manufacturing locations were involved. But pretty consistent. Also, when talking about used/vintage shirts, the number of washings can affect the feel of the fabric pretty significantly. That can be a good thing, depending on one's preferences in terms of how "broken in" a shirt feels.

I just happened to come across this today, in case you're interested (no affiliation with the seller) : 1998-99 Levi's denim shirt / "terracotta"

Looks pretty nice. Black label dates it to '98 or '99. A dark burnt orange color. Appears to be very close to 24" across the chest.
Nice color! It looks just a touch small for me- I tend to look for 24” minimum up to 25. Might pull the trigger just to check it out…

It's funny with measurements. There's easily at least an inch of "error room" when people measure (sometimes more). Depends on how stretched out the shirt was when measured, placement of tape, etc. Anyway, just thought I'd show you the link. It is an unusual color. I was tempted to add it to the collection myself... but not really a favorite color for me, and I have two shirts in lighter shades of rust.

I tend to be pretty flexible with chest measurements (I'm fine with anything from about 23" to 25.5". It's the sleeve lengths that are often more of an issue for me. Doesn't happen often, but every once in awhile I get a shirt where the sleeves are too short.

Hi Nearvy, thanks for joining in. As I mentioned here recently, there are many label variations (from around the world) for these vintage Levi's shirts. And, if your label had been a fake, I don't think it would be as detailed as it is (fakes are usually less detailed and non-professional in their appearance). I have seen many different labels, so it doesn't really surprise me to see another one that is slightly different from some others. So I wouldn't worry- I think your label is legitimate. I own about a half dozen shirts made in Thailand, by the way, dating from 1989 to 1991. Glad to see one from outside that range (gives me a little more insight into the history). If you can, it would be great to see more photos of your shirt (front and back, and any other details that may be unusual or important). Thanks again!

Editing to add... I also am more convinced that your shirt is original because of the other tag photo you posted in your other topic. A faker would be very unlikely to bother with copying details like that.
